When diving into the world of self-sufficiency life diy bath, body, and homemade laundry detergent is an easy and money saving item to try. Besides the fact that it will save you a load of money in the long run, this recipe is incredibly simple and works well to clean your clothes without harmful chemicals or heavy build up. Add essential oils to the mix if you like to create custom scents, I like making my laundry soap in small batches like this for this reason- I can change to a new scent often!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Ingredients for Homemade Laundry Detergent

1 1/2 cups washing soda

½ cup baking soda

½ cup Oxi Clean or Awesome Oxygen

½ cup coarse sea salt

1 bar doTERRA  Citrus Bliss Soap ( or your favorite mild soap like Ivory, when I'm out of doTERRA I use Ivory)

Optional- essential oil

Directions for Homemade Laundry Detergent

Combine baking soda, washing soda, oxi clean, and sea salt in a large bowl.

Grate 1 bar doTerra soap into your mixture.

Stir well to get all ingredients mixed evenly.

Mix in essential oil if desired to scent your homemade laundry soap, otherwise it will just have a light clean scent.

Transfer mixture to a 2 quart Mason Jar, add a 1 T. measuring spoon for scooping.

To use:

Drop 1 heaping Tablespoon of soap into the water at the start of the wash cycle, for extremely soiled loads use 2 Tablespoons.

You can make bigger batches by doubling the recipe. Homemade Laundry Detergent is a great way to not only save money but to also hone your skills for self sufficient living. If you're looking for a Liquid Detergent be sure to check out Homemade Liquid Baby Detergent

I use dove. I didn’t know doTerra sold soaps! I’ll have to look into that! Thanks for sharing with the Homestead Blog Hop!
