Are you trying to plan the perfect homeschool field trip but aren’t sure how to get started? I wanted to share some of my best tips for planning the ultimate homeschool field trip. When you plan well for a homeschool field trip, you are bound to learn more and stay less stressed.
How to Plan for the Perfect Homeschool Field Trip
Spend Time Choosing Where You’ll Go
This is probably one of the most important parts of planning the perfect homeschool field trip. Planning the perfect field trip is an important part of the process because it helps determine what your kids will learn and what lessons they will walk away with.
Let the Kids Get Involved
It’s okay to ask the kids their opinions on where they would like to go on a homeschool field trip. The whole family can work together to discover places that would be beneficial to everyone. Perhaps your kids can help think of educational locations you never considered before.
Write it All Down
Every parent has a lot going through their minds when it comes to planning the perfect homeschool field trip. I try to write everything I need to remember down. I write important things like the name of the place we’re going, the address, how much it costs, how long it will take us to get there, how long we plan on staying, and so on.
Have a List of Goals in Mind
Obviously you’re planning this homeschool field trip with a few academic goals in mind. I always take a few minutes to write down what I would like my child to learn while she’s on a homeschool field trip. I also keep follow up ideas in mind (journal entries or research activities). I ask myself “how can my child keep learning from this trip for days, months, or years to come?”
Always Allow Plenty of Time
No one likes to be rushed, especially when it comes to learning. If you’re going to plan a homeschool field trip, allow for plenty of time. If you’re going to be in a rush, it might be better to plan the field trip for another time. Allowing plenty of time allows everything to sink in.
Learn from Your Mistakes
Planning the “perfect” homeschool field trip is a long shot. When I say perfect, I mean perfect for your family. Your day will never go exactly how you planned. However, you can do your best to ensure it’s a very well planned out trip. You can still prepare for the mishaps of the day by staying cool, calm, and collected.
