I think I'm in love with Cortana. She lives inside my new Lumia 1520 and she totally rocks my socks. Read on to find out why!
Disclosure: I was sent the Lumia 1520 and several hosting items in order to write Meet Cortana on the Lumia 1520 #MoreLumia. Nevertheless, these are my own opinions and experiences.
With two Christmas dinners, shopping for Holiday baking items, baking Holiday treats, buying gifts for family, buying gifts for my bonus kids, buying gifts for Mini, shopping for Christmas Dinner, and everything in between, the Holiday's are busy. Add into the mix being a Blogger and it's a whole lot of what day is it, when is that post due, wait I need pictures, oh I need to bake these treats, where are we supposed to be this weekend, what gifts have I already bought, oh wait I need a recipe for that, Gee, can I have a glass of wine and a moment to breathe moments. Trust me when I say there is an app for that! Well, most of that BUT there IS a phone for all of that. (well, maybe not the wine) The Lumia 1520 comes with it's very own personal assistant and her name is Cortana.
See her up there in the picture? She's in the bottom picture, 2nd row, on the left. She's a whole bowl of awesomesauce and more. Want to get to know her a little more?
Meet Cortana on the Lumia 1520
Cortana's notebook keeps track of your interests and routines and provides information that is useful to you personally. Unlike others that just give you generic answers, Cortana's answers are meaningful to you and your life. Cortana is the only digital assistant with people based reminders. When you are waist deep in the holiday hustle, she won't let you forget that Sally, Jimmy, Susie, Harry, has a Christmas program at 2:00. She'll also let you know that you just scheduled your appointment at the exact same time you are supposed to have the dog at the vet. (not that I know that first hand, I just hear things, ya know?) Need a little company? Cortana is always up for a little chit chat. She was designed to have a personality. Like a any good assistant she will screen your calls and texts when you need some down time. Click on her and you will see her familiar Getting things ready….from there the sky really is the limit. (only because I'm not sure how she would work in space)
Need a little music at your Christmas dinner? The Lumia 1520 comes has a little app called Mix Radio and has like a Billion (I'm just guessing here) songs to choose from. We loved the Christmas Hits and the Christmas Classics. I knew I wanted to use the hosting items to spruce up my table. I added a Christmas table cloth, gold place mats, gold polka dotted coasters, some matching glasses, and gold toned place cards.
I also added a great smelling gold toned candle and some red and green Be Jolly Crackers that have small toys inside. My table is now all ready for Christmas. Well, I should say it was, Mini could not keep her hands off the Be Jolly Crackers as you can see from the picture above.
In my hosting kit I was sent a Nokia MD-12 Wireless Speaker. There has been much debate over who was getting that small powerhouse. It pairs well with the Mix Radio app on the Lumia 1520. I add a little Fir and Wild Orange essential oil to the diffuser and find us some Christmas music on Mix Radio and we just let Christmas settle over us. If you have trouble keeping up with your precious, you can map it with Here. Add your precious to the Nokia Treasure Tag and precious will always be within site on your Lumia 1520.
Must Have Apps on the Lumia 1520
It seems the Lumia 1520 just knows what's important and it comes with some must have apps ALREADY installed. As in straight out the box here ya go installed!
Evernote: How do I love thee, let me count the ways! I was a late comer to Evernote but I can't imagine what I ever did without it. It's my all in one, keep my life together, keep my thoughts together, sync it with everything I can, app! I live on my phones and I run across a lot of posts that I want to check out once I'm on the PC. I would over them in my internet browser to remind me. I didn't want to bookmark them since I was just going to either print something, make a note in my writing notebook about it, or bookmark it on the PC. After losing 2 browsers full off sites I finally signed up for Evernote so I could keep up with stuff and my life. I will say there is a learning curve with Evernote but once you get it you GOT it.
Bigoven: I love finding and trying new recipes. I end up with several of them in my browser on my phone because I know I won't remember them. With over 350,000 recipes you can find everything you need to create a Holiday dinner that they will be raving about for years. Can't you hear it now. “Mom remember that year you discovered the Lumia 1520 and made that yummy (insert whatever yummy thing you can think of)? That was the best Christmas dinner ever mom!”
Betty Crocker I am not, but I sure am Stephanie tries a lot!
Virtual Fireplace App: Remember that glass of wine we discussed way at the beginning of the post? Yeah, it's totally time to grab it and curl up on the couch, on the bed, even on the floor, and grab your Lumia 1520 and start the Fireplace app. Now sip on your wine, watch the flames, and listen to the crackle and pop of the fire. Ahhhhh…that's it, now it's starting to feel a lot like Christmas.
