I love to cook, I love to bake also but it just doesn’t seem to love me. Certain things are just out of my realm of expertise like Gingerbread houses. Yes I can go buy a kit ready to throw together but I found an even better way for my little one to get her Gingerbread house fix and let her make a fun mess all at the same time. Also, this is a very inexpensive (near free) craft you can do with your kids that takes just a little preparation on your part. We made a Milk Carton Gingerbread house with just a few other craft supplies!

Milk Carton Gingerbread House
Simple Gingerbread houses from milk cartons can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish. Gather some basic supplies you probably already have around the house or pick up a couple dollars worth at the craft or dollar store and get to constructing these adorable decorations
Clean half gallon milk carton
brown acrylic paint
foam paint brush
ribbon, washi tape, buttons, pipe cleaners, stickers, etc.
Wash out milk carton well, rinse, and dry.
Cut carton in half if desired to make 2 smaller buildings.
Give your child a generous amount of brown paint and have them give the carton a good coat of paint to cover.
Allow to dry completely and add 2-3 more coats of paint. ( If you want to get through these steps quicker you could paint it with brown spray paint and let your child do the rest of the decorating)
Once your carton is adequately covered and completely dry you are ready to add some “candy” decorations. We twisted red and white chenille stems together to make candy canes, used white pompoms for snow, buttons for roof shingles, and washi tape to add some sparkle and style. Paint a thick coat of glue on the roof then cover with buttons.
Now add more detail as you wish, we used white yarn for icing/snow, made a sweet little candy cane door and window,
Save up those milk cartons and you can create a whole sweet gingerbread village!
