I have a love of all things fall and I feel like it needs to be ushered in with some fanfare. What better way than this Homemade Apple Pie with a Streusel Topping? You can even make it with this Apple Pie Filling.
OK, so maybe I am stretching it a bit when I call it homemade apple pie- I do have to admit I cheated a bit here and used a store bought pie crust for the bottom-
I have never been able to make a good pastry crust so I finally gave up but if you have a great recipe for pie crust then use that by all means!
Ingredients for homemade Apple Pie
- 5 cups apples, peeled and diced (You can use your peels and cores to learn how to make homemade apple cider vinegar)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup Maple syrup
- 3/4 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. Nutmeg
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- pinch of salt
How to make Streusel Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 4 T. butter, melted
How to make a homemade apple pie with a streusel topping
Preheat oven to 375°
Line pie plate with ready made or homemade pie crust.
In a large bowl stir together diced apples, brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt.
Pour into pie crust.
In a separate bowl combine all topping ingredients and sprinkle over apples.
Bake for 40-45 minutes until top is golden brown. Remove from oven and cool for 15 minutes before slicing. Eat it alone or top with ice cream or whipped cream for extra decadence.
